Helen Needham

London, GB

Founder/Managing Principal Me.Decoded/Capco

“A lover of big talk, not small talk, seeking a world where Neurodivergent thinking is valued.”

Helen is a neurodiversity advocate who is on a mission to bring about a world where Neurodiversity is embraced, so more of the Neurodivergent can be valued.

Helen is a leader at Capco, a Financial Services management consultancy. As a consultant, Helen has delivered complex business transformation initiatives, but often struggled with people and this held her back. After struggling for many years with increasing anxiety, Helen was diagnosed as autistic in 2017. This was 5 years after her son was diagnosed.

Realising that she was different, not difficult, Helen changed the way she worked. This helped her succeed in the workplace, and reduce her anxiety.

Since then she has launched an employee neurodiversity network at Capco, founded Me.Decoded (an online platform for promoting Neurodiversity), and will shortly be adding TEDx speaker to her list of accomplishments.

As an advocate, Helen talks passionately about the challenges and strengths of being Neurodivergent in the hope that more people will be encouraged to embrace Neurodiversity in the world around them.

At the Game Changers Summit Helen talked about the challenges that she, her mom and her son struggled with before being diagnosed as neurodivergent, and the changes that came about after being diagnosed as autistic. With at least one ten people being Neurodivergent, Helen has a simple message. The neurodivergent are not difficult, they are different, and they are to be valued. A message she hopes that more people will embrace, along with new ways of working so that the 1in10 are not faced with barriers in a world that doesn’t stop to think about them.
