Approach

In a world of information overload, it’s ever more critical that organisations communicate in a memorable and authentic fashion. Ginger’s public speaking training is a unique and progressive programme that challenges us not to become public speaking robots, but to grow into talented communicators based the on the six key qualities of an Inspiring Speaker.

About

Programmes are led by public speaking expert Sarah Lloyd-Hughes, author of “How to be Brilliant at Public Speaking” (Pearson, Oct 2011). Her lively style provides a safe environment for aspiring and experienced speakers to take a step outside their comfort zones. All programmes involve cutting-edge theory, a strong focus on learning-by-doing and in-depth feedback for participants.

The Public Speaking House: from “How to be Brilliant at Public Speaking” (Pearson 2011)

The complete public speaking programme takes participants on a comprehensive journey from nerves, to ‘getting through it’, to becoming a memorable speaker, to moving and inspiring the audience. To make this change, we recommend a programme of six sessions, each themed around one element of the Public Speaking House (above).

The model postulates that we all have the innate qualities need to become an influential and inspiring public speaker – we just need a little help in bringing them out.

Programme

Seminar 1: The Foundations of Excellent Public Speaking

Aim: know how you speak and how to increase the impact it has: We investigate how you can gain mastery of your body and voice to elicit basic confidence from your audience. Discover your public speaking quirks and turn your body & voice into powerful tools to inspire.

Seminar 2: The Authentic Speaker

Aim: unlock the confident, powerful speaker inside: Speakers who communicate authentically face less ‘stage fright’ and are much more likely to influence their audience. We uncover your unique ‘speaker brand’ and connect that to your organization’s message. We help you to unlock the stage persona that will best serve you as a speaker with influence.

Seminar 3: Memorable Messages through public speaking

Aim: become a speaker who’s memorable for the right reasons: Learn how to create public speaking experiences that stick in the minds of your audience, long after they’ve left the room. Memorable public speaking is about what you say, how you say it and how you interact with your audience. You will learn how to innovate and create memorable moments in your speaking that emphasize your key messages.

Seminar 4: To love & be loved

Aim: get inside the heads of your audience: Learn how focusing on the needs of your audience will dramatically increase your impact as a speaker. We investigate how to prepare with your audience in mind and handle even the most difficult of audience members.

Seminar 5: Weaving Magic

Aim: learn how to masterfully structure a presentation or talk: Skillfully prioritize and structure information so that your audience goes on a journey through your public speaking. Learn how to plot your next piece of public speaking, from informative speeches, to those designed to persuade. Add drama at the right moments and how to close powerfully to make the most impact. This workshop also helps your memory in public speaking.

Seminar 6: The Fearless Speaker

Aim: Go beyond your comfort zone to benefit your audience: Battle your inner demons to step beyond any limitations that are left. We investigate techniques for accessing your most powerful state and challenge you to maximize your speaking impact. Pulling all the lessons you have learned together, this session encourages you to fully become a speaker with impact.

Customisation

This public speaking programme is carefully designed to create rounded, powerful speakers who think for themselves. As such, there may be some  elements of ‘traditional’ training programmes that are emphasised less, or absent from the programme. Whilst we recommend that the general structure of the programme remains fixed, we are of course happy to tailor certain elements to the public speaking and presenting needs of your organisation.

Group sizes

The optimum group size for this public speaking programme is 6-12 people as this provides the best possibility for feedback for each participant. It is also possible to deliver smaller, more intensive groups and 1-2-1 training for speakers with particular needs. 1-2-1 sessions need not follow such a formalised structure. Larger group programmes are also possible – either as an address at conferences, or as workshops with extra trainers from the Ginger team brought in to facilitate group work.
